Cumberland Internet, Inc. is pleased to offer a new email filtering service called Postini. As a Cumberland Internet subscriber, this new service is available to you at no extra charge.

About Cumberland Internet's Postini:

  • Through Postini, we give you the tools to prevent junk mail and viruses from reaching your computer.
  • Your incoming email will be checked against known lists of virus and junk mail lists in an effort to stop them before they are delivered to you.
  • Potential viruses and junk mail are held in Postini's message center for your review. You have the option of deleting them from the message center or having them delivered to you.
  • You personally control the filters by choosing your level of filtering as well as setting up lists of approved and blocked senders.
  • For more information, visit our Postini Frequently Asked Questions Page

Postini Instructions:

  • When your Postini account is activated, you will receive an email notification.
  • The first step is to log onto your personal message center in Postini. You will log on at http://login.postini.com/exec/login or by following the Postini Logon link at the top of the home page. Your "Log in Address" is your full Cumberland Internet email address and your Password will be your Cumberland Internet password.  To complete the log in process you must click the "Log In" button or hit enter on your keyboard.
  • After logging in, you will be taken directly to your Message Center. This is where potential viruses and junk mail are quarantined for your review. Any mail left in the message center is automatically deleted after 14 days.
  • On this screen you will select the messages to Delete or Deliver.  You select messages by clicking the check box next to the message.
  • You may also choose "Select All" or "Unselect All" at the bottom of the screen to Delete or Deliver all of the messages.
  • When you choose to have a message delivered to you, you will be given the option to add that email address to the "Approved Senders" list.  Adding them will prevent any future messages from that recipient from being quarantined in your message center.
  • You can change your account preferences by clicking the "Junk Email" link or the "Virus" at the top of the screen.

Junk Mail Filter Configuration:

  • Click on the "Junk Email" link towards the top of the message center page
  • You may need to click the "On" button to activate the filtering services.  You may also choose not to use Postini for junk email filtering by clicking the "Off" button.
  • Further customize your junk mail settings by click on the various filters:

Filter Categories: This filter allows you to stop specific types of messages.  You can choose to filter email that fall into the following categories: Sexually Explicit , Get Rich Quick, Racially Sensitive, Special Offers.  It automatically filters for bulk junk mail.

Filter Sensitivity: This screen allows you to choose the sensitivity level for your filters. You can choose whether the fiter level is Lenient, Moderate, Aggressive.

Blocked Senders/Approved Senders: These filters allow you to block or approve various senders by individual email addresses or by selecting an entire domain. For example: you could choose to approve all mail from anyone with an @rr1.net email address.

Virus Filter Configuration:

  • Click on the "Virus" link towards the top of the message center page
  • The Virus Protection filter only has the option of being on or off.  We highly recommend that you turn on the Virus Protection by clicking the "On" button.  This will help stop viruses before they are ever downloaded into your computer.
